Please do not send us email asking for medical advice regarding your pet.  Instead ask your local veterinarian for advice on all medical related questions.  While Pet Supplies 'N' More promotes natural treatments this should only be done in cooperation with your veterinarian.

We need the service our veterinarians provide. By working together with them, it is possible to combine the knowledge of conventional and holistic education, so that our pets receive the best care and live a long, healthy life.   It is not difficult to expect a caring professional to protect you from what they perceive to be a hoax or, worse yet, harmful. So first, give them credit for doing their job sincerely, then prepare yourself to help provide them with the education they never got.  As the legal guardian of your pet, you have the right and the ethical duty to do what you think is best.

What's up with everyone recommending digestive enzymes?
Well basically enzymes are what help break down food so the body can get the nutrients. There are some basic enzymes that are needed. Lipase: is an enzyme to help digest fats. Lipase works throughout the digestive process to break down the fats and lipids(fatty acids) in the diet to make them easier to absorb. Amylase: is an enzyme found in people's saliva (dogs don't have the same type of saliva glands people do, so they need this added to any kibble diet) and its primary function is a starch-dissolving enzyme. Amylase is the first enzyme to take starch in our food and break it down into simple sugars, which can be more easily absorbed. Amylase is the digestive enzyme needed to digest carbohydrates. Protease: is an enzyme to break down proteins. Proteins are molecules that make up living tissue, including muscles and internal systemic enzymes. Certain proteins can only be provided through our food. If you don't have enough protease it can cause protein malnutrition. Cellulase: is an enzyme which breaks down non-digestible fiber found in fruits and vegetables. If you want better absorption of the minerals found in the fiber of fruits, vegetables and grains then you want the addition of Cellulase. As you can see it is important for animals as well as people to make sure they have the digestive enzymes needed to get the most out of the food eaten.[return to top]

Why don't you like plastic water and food dishes?
From all the things that I have read plastic food and water dishes are not the best choices for pets (or people).  Some of the concerns are as follows:  The dog/cat is eating or drinking and slobbering in the food/water that starts a bacteria growth in thier food/water dish, that bacteria gets into the plastic and contaminates the next batch of food/water and the cycle continues. (Think about when you put a tomato product in plastic and how that stains).  The next problem is that plastic releases toxins into the food/water.  Also I have noticed over the many years that most dogs that have plastic dishes also have the pigment missing on thier noses. My puppy is chewing on everything, should I give him rawhide?
Well it is my opinion that puppies under the age of six months shouldn't have rawhides, and I never recommend rawhides for Labradors. I think there are better alternatives for rawhides for puppies one would be a nylabone dental dinosaur I like these because they are hard and have nubs on them to help stimulate the puppies gums to stop them from hurting also if you keep it in the frig it's cool and helps relieve the pain associated with teething.(If you have had children you know what I mean). You also want to make sure that he has a lot of different things to chew on so that your stuff isn't appealing, filled bones (frozen with there dog food), kongs, ruff and rugged toys, thick bully sticks, a variety of proper sized nylabones. I have problems with my cat going to the bathroom outside of the litter box what can I do?
This is a common question we get with customers in the store.  There are a number of reasons a cat might decide to not use the litter box.  The first thing you should do is check to make sure there are no physcial problems like urinary trac infection.  If there is no infection then it could be as simple as getting a new box, change litter, get another box.  I realize there are a number of reasons (to many to list in this space) so I would recommend going to the Cats International site they have a wonderful site and people that deal with these problems daily. Are premium pet foods actually better than the cheap stuff?
Premium formulas are designed to give your pet an ideal standard of nutritional excellence. As a result, some of the ingredients in are more expensive than those used in non-premium foods. [return to top]

Why do you recommend wheat grass for pets?
Wheat grass contains fiber, minerals and vitamins A and D. It also has a very high moisture content. Commercially prepared pet foods lose many nutrients through processing and this is an easy way for them to get fresh foods in their system. [return to top]
